Flights can be tracked via FlightRadar24.com via a web page or app on phone. This is a fascinating technology that shows these flights flying on top of bald eagle nests and gull rookeries. Federal regulations require aircraft to be not within 1000’ of nests.
According to FlightTracker24, occasionally these planes transponders stop transmitting:
This flight flies over an eagle nest on takeoff, returns close to 2 additional nests, and flies over Houghton County Airport on departure and arrival!
It appears from reading FAA and Michigan DOT regulations, there isn’t a requirement for insurance of any kind. If you know of such, please advise.
